Woman assaulted on train in Heidelberg

A woman was indecently assaulted on a Melbourne train by a man who told her he was going to follow her home.

The 27-year-old woman was sitting in the train about 9.50pm on January 8 when a man approached her and attempted to strike up a conversation.

He told her he was getting off at the same station as her and followed her to the doors when they reached Heidelberg station.

He indecently assaulted her and followed her off the train, police said.

The victim managed to shake off the alleged assailant by seeking help from another man who escorted her through an underpass.

The alleged attacker then returned to the train platform where he boarded a train to Eltham.

The man has been described as Caucasian in appearance, aged in his early to mid-20s, with a slim build and short brown hair.

He was wearing a black T-shirt with a large motif on the front, dark coloured shorts, white runners and was carrying a black and grey backpack on the night of the alleged incident.
