Woman driver hit by rock in Thornbury

A woman has been injured after a rock was thrown through her car’s windscreen in Melbourne’s north on Sunday morning.

Police said the incident occurred in Thornbury just before 3am.

The woman, 27, was driving a silver Toyota Echo on Raleigh Street and was approaching Rathmines Road when the item smashed into her windscreen. It landed on her lap.

Northcote police believe the rock was thrown from nearby road works.

The woman suffered cuts and bruises and was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
