A woman was dragged into a vacant house and sexually assaulted in Melbourne's east on Thursday morning, police have been told.

The 21-year-old said she was physically and sexually assaulted inside the unoccupied house on the south-west corner of Station Street in Burwood after being pulled into the front yard by her unknown attacker.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the woman was walking west along the south side of the Burwood Highway when the man walked up behind her and forced her into the property between 10am and 10.15am.

The man was described as being of Asian appearance and aged between 30 and 40 years old.
