Two women have been killed in separate car accidents in the state's north overnight.
The first accident happened along Game Street near Surgey Street, Merbein, just before midnight.
It appears that the female driver of a Holden Barina failed to negotiate a bend in the road, lost control of the vehicle and hit a tree.
She was the only occupant of the vehicle and has yet to be formally identified.
The second accident occurred near Tatura, along Ferguson Road near Toolamba Road, about 3.30am. It appears that the driver of a Ford Sedan lost control of the vehicle and hit a tree.
There were five people in the vehicle and a female died at the scene. She is yet to be formally identified.
Four others were taken to Goulburn Valley Health hospital.
Detectives from Major Collision Investigation Unit are en route to the scene and are appealing for witnesses. Motorists are advised Ferguson Road will be closed between Turnbull Road and Toolamba Road while the investigation continues.
The road toll for 2014 stands at 17, compared to 11 for the same time in 2013.
