Xavier College and Carey Baptist Grammar School confirmed they were trying to work out whether their students took part in the disturbance.

Darryn Tucker received a terrified call from his daughter on Saturday night after 30 teenagers jumped the fence and threw a beer bottle through a window.

"It was absolutely intimidating for my young girls," he said. "It was just like Braveheart coming to the door, a complete ambush."

Mr Tucker's daughter had been having a quiet gathering with just eight friends, but news of the event spread via word of mouth.

Carey Baptist Grammar School principal Philip Grutzner said he was very concerned about reports that his students were involved.

He said the school would work with police if requested.

"Carey takes the behaviour of its students very seriously and promotes a culture of respect for others. We will continue to work with students, parents and staff to uphold these expectations," he said.

Xavier College principal Chris Hayes said the school was also trying to substantiate whether any of their students were involved.

"We are in the process of investigating the matter to determine the school's response to the issue," he said.

Police were called to the scene but the trespassers had left by the time they arrived. The saga was captured on the family's CCTV camera, with the footage now with police.

Alcohol was stolen from the house, and shards of glass were scattered across the floor and furniture.

Mr Tucker's daughter told police that she recognised people in the group and that they attended several Melbourne private schools.

The family said it would contact Xavier, Carey Grammar, Strathcona Baptist Girls Grammar, Genazzano FCJ College and Methodist Ladies College. Fairfax Media has contacted all these schools for comment.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said police were investigating the incident.
