A Victorian man has been jailed for at least 18 months for the repeated sexual assault of his daughter and a granddaughter when they were teenagers.
The 72-year-old pleaded guilty to five counts of indecent assault dating back to 1982 and one count of attempting to procure an act of gross indecency.
A Victorian County Court judge on Thursday sentenced the man to a total of three years in prison with a non-parole period of 18 months.
The judge said the crimes were exacerbated by the breach of trust and the age difference between the offender and his victims.
The man was in his mid-40s when he began to touch his 12-year-old daughter, a practice that continued until she was 15.
He used threats and presents to prevent his daughter from reporting the abuse and said she would be responsible for the impact on the family and possible divorce if she told her mother.
The judge said the offender's daughter, in trying to stop her father's advances, used to pretend she was asleep as he touched her breasts.
The offender was 67 when he assaulted his granddaughter by touching her inappropriately.
She was about 11 at the time.
The judge said because of the offender's age, jail would be hard on him and there was a low risk that he would re-offend.
