An alleged scooter thief bounced right into the clutches of the police who were chasing him last night.

Police spokesman Sam Dinnison told 6PR Radio that police received a report about 8.50pm that a scooter had been stolen from a suburb in the eastern part of Geraldton.

When officers went to investigate, they saw the scooter being ridden.

Officers turned on their lights and siren and after a short pursuit the man came off the scooter when the vehicle hit a curb.

The offender then jumped a fence but reappeared in the air and police were able to grab him.

On the other side of the fence was a trampoline which had bounced the offender straight back up into the arms of the officers who were pursuing him.

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with stealing as well as a range of traffic offences.
