Following the recent rating success of reality talent shows The X Factor and The Voice, 720 ABC Perth today launched Exhumed – "a band competition for the would be's or the has-beens, but for the never-were's," a statement read.
The Exhumed competition will be championed by Mornings presenter and seasoned rocker John McGlue who will be channelling other talent show judges Mel B and Keith Urban by aiming to discover Perth's unsigned, unprofessional, unrepresented and unknown musical talents.
"To enter, bands can't earn their crust by performing – no wedding bands, professional bands or bands that have had a hit back in the day. Band members must have a day job and practice and perform in their spare time for the love and fun of it," the statement continued.

However McGlue pointed out Exhumed is not a competition for "the next young things on their way to the top."
The ABC wants to tap into the pool of white collar talent lurking in Perth, so any other brick laying pop stars from Balcatta need not apply.
"We're looking for the accountants, the business people, the dentists, real estate agents and librarians who work during the day and rock out at night," he said.
"For those bands that get together for a jam on the weekend, all for the love of music – then this is a competition for you."
While the Mornings program will strive to find Perth's best band, the talent within the ABC newsroom continues to reach new heights thanks to 2012 Walkley Young Australian Journalist of the Year Jake Sturmer and his former colleague's Karina Carvalho – who now co-hosts ABC News Breakfast and Minsi Chung – an aspiring singer/songwriter who released her first EP Picture Perfect Life in August.
Exhumed will be the AM equivalent of Triple J's Unearthed competition.
