Livestock die on stranded ship off Fremantle

More than 30 livestock have died on a ship stranded in a Perth harbour for more than a week.

The MV Ocean Outback, originally destined for Israel - carrying 13,000 sheep and cattle - encountered engine problems when departing Fremantle Harbour on December 29.

Ship owner Wellard Live Exports confirmed the deaths of 30 sheep and three cattle on Sunday.

The remaining 5500 cattle will be shipped to South East Asia, while the 7500 sheep on board were offloaded and transported to a quarantine feedlot.

The RSPCA says it will continue to liaise with authorities about the welfare of the animals.
