Police dog Storm has "clamped down on crime" after he caught a teenage alcohol thief as he tried to run away in Brentwood on Saturday.

Police were called to a Cranford Aveune bottle shop after the teen was seen stealing alcohol at 7.50pm, police spokesman Samuel Dinnison said.

"Officers from Palmyra Police Station attended a block of units nearby, where the offender was seen," he said.

"The officers entered one of the units, and a male person fled the scene through another door."

Storm was sent to the area to help and police were full of praise for the K9 after he found the boy hiding under a parked car.

Police warned the teenager several times that Storm would be released, as the boy tried to run from the scene.

When the boy didn't stop, Storm was released and, after a short chase, took hold of the boy's leg until police arrived to arrest him.

The 17-year-old from Spencer Park was charged with stealing and breach of bail.

He is due to appear in the Perth Children’s Court on Monday August 4.
