Public Transport Authority punts footy fans on parking

If you plan on taking public transport to the game between Richmond and West Coast on Friday night, you may want to re-think parking at the train station.

The Public Transport Authority has advised that although public transport is included in the price of the ticket, the PTA's new $2 parking fee at stations is not.

There was a swift reaction on Twitter when Transperth tweeted the news, with users labelling the decision as "ordinary".

The PTA's David Hynes defended the decision, saying that parking had never been part of the ticket cost.

"They're two completely separate things," he said.

"The joint ticket certainly covers the cost of public transport but it has never covered parking, they're different components.

"We joint ticket a lot of events, and free public transport is included in all those events, but parking fees still apply."

He confirmed there were no plans to change the ruling.

The parking fee only applies Monday to Friday, meaning it is not usually an issue for footy fans.

  • Gonna be a windfall when they build the new stadium with no parking.

    • Oh no! $2!!! That's going to cut into the chardonnay budget. Oh, and don't worry about the fact that Cockburn Station has always had a 2$ fee, that's only south of the river, care factor zero.

            • Surely this is click bait? A complete non-issue given the price of food and drinks at the footy. I reckon the only thing you could get at Subi Oval for under $2 would be one of those little squeezy sauce packets!

            • Easy way around this, just dont drive to the station. Take the bus, walk or ride a bike.

              • These left wing wingers can do nothing but wing, should put the parking fee up to $3 per hour like most parking companies charge and a $500 fine for parking without paying.

Sick to death with the bloody wingers.
