Police have taken a man into custody over an explosion at a suspected drug lab in South Lake on Thursday night.

A spokeswoman for WA Police confirmed two men were seen running from the house in South Lake Drive after the explosion about 8.30pm.

The man was being question on Friday but the spokeswoman said it was unclear if he was one of the men seen running from the house.

Officers have also spoken to a female tenant of the property, but the spokeswoman said it is not known if she was home at the time.

Police and Department of Fire and Emergency Services crews evacuating nearby units.

The home was severely damaged in the blast and subsequent fire.

The South Lake explosion was one of two more clandestine drug labs uncovered on Thursday.

Another was found in West Perth, taking the yearly tally to five in just 10 days.

At 5pm, police evacuated units in Cleaver Street, West Perth, after dangerous chemicals commonly used in the manufacture of illicit drugs were found in a unit.

Specialised organised crime units are investigating both incidents which come within 24 hours of a series of early morning drug raids carried out by police in Perth's southern suburbs.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
