BARACK Obama was just a few hours out of Kabul when bomb blasts and sirens, black smoke and speeding army trucks erupted.
A car bomb exploded at the entrance to the ''Green Village'', a hub of foreign guest houses in the east of the city. Several gunmen entered and fired at security services, before a second bomber blew himself up inside the fortified walls.
At least eight people - including several children - were killed, and as many as 17 people were injured in fighting that lasted more than two hours.
The Taliban said the attacks were a message to the US President. ''He is not welcome in Afghanistan,'' Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said. ''When he is in Afghanistan, we want him to hear the sound of explosions. Afghanistan does not want his imposed strategy.''
