Backpacker's bargain

Date: May 01 2012

WELLINGTON. A first edition Enid Blyton book discovered by a backpacker in a pile of books he bought for $NZ5 ($A3.95) at a New Zealand garage sale has been sold for $1510.

Welsh backpacker Tim Bow found a copy of We Want a Story, a compilation of short children's stories, when he was at a Nelson garage sale searching for a present for a friend's child, the Nelson Mail reported.

Mr Bow lives and works at a backpackers' hostel, and buys items at garage sales to sell online. The auction for the Blyton book closed on Sunday with a winning bid of $1510, well over the reserve of $1000.

''Sucks to the person who had the garage sale,'' one of the comments on the auction site said.
