Troy and Lauren McGuigan want to make the most of time spent with their three-year-old daughter, because time is running out.
Little Annie has endured multiple operations, more than 30 radiation treatments and 12 months of chemotherapy since she was diagnosed with a vicious, "one-in-three-million" brain tumour in March 2013.
Now the McGuigan family has suffered the cruelest blow of all after an MRI scan revealed the disease had progressed rapidly in the past couple of months and its spread was "extensive".
Doctors found more of the cancer on Annie's brain, as well as new spots on her spine.
They said the cancer was inoperable and Annie's low platelet count meant further treatments, such as chemotherapy, were no longer an option.
The McGuigans took to social media this week to update their daughter's supporters on her condition, but said ultimately "there are no words".
"As a parent of a child who has been fighting for their life for almost half their life, this is an update you hope and pray you will never have to write," Mr McGuigan wrote.
"The most likely outcome is that we have a couple of weeks left together.
"Even writing that now, I have an overwhelming feeling of panic and the need to vomit.
"Since returning home we have watched Annie's strength and fight slowly decline.
"To say this is heartbreaking doesn't seem enough."
Mr McGuigan said the situation was "torture".
"Having to watch your child detoriate and suffer and not being able to do anything is an indescribable pain.
"Knowing what the end result will be is beyond heartbreaking.
"As I lie here tonight with Annie asleep on my shoulder the only thought that gives me any comfort is that when that time comes Annie will no longer be in pain, she will no longer have to fight and she will no longer have to suffer.
"Until that time comes I will cherish every moment with my princess."
Annie's aunt Lindsay Hayes said the McGuigans, who also have a one-year-old son, Max, were focused on spending as much time with their little girl as they could.
"They're holding her while she falls asleep in front of the television, if she wants to throw flour on the floor while she's helping to make scones, they're letting her do that.
"They take turns having snuggles with her in bed."
"The wider family is struggling, but we're always coming around to do what we can to help, to make sure there's someone to play with Max and to go and get medication so Lauren and Troy can do what they need to do."
Mrs Hayes said Annie was "doing as OK as can be expected".
"She's still pretty good, she's just tired now."
She said Annie might have to go back to hospital but she would stay at home as long as her pain levels could be managed there.
The Canberra community had rallied to support the McGuigans and Annie's prognosis hadn't disrupted ongoing fund-raising efforts.
"While she's still here there's medications she needs to be on and they're obviously still not working. And they won't be able to return to work for some months as they deal with it all emotionally I imagine," Mrs Hayes said.
All money raised through both events will go to the McGuigan family.
