Yarralumla's Weston Park now has a new multi-purpose gravel platform, public "boulodrome", picnic shelter with barbecues, picnic settings and a water refill station.

A boulodrome is where the public can play petanque and bocce, both games similar to lawn bowls.

The Minister for Territory and Municipal Services and Sport and Recreation, Shane Rattenbury, said Weston Park was home to some of the oldest urban trees in the ACT.

"The park is a great place to relax for a picnic, go for a walk or take children to play," he said.

"It attracted over 1.3 million interstate and international visitors last year with its great vistas across the lake to Government House and the National Arboretum."

The upgrades cost $2.2 million and were funded through the town and district park improvement program.

"The Capital Petanque Club received a $61,270 sport and recreation grant to build the new boulodrome on a gravel surface in the park," Mr Rattenbury said.

"The Capital Petanque Club has done a fantastic job in designing the boulodrome.

"The club has worked closely with both Sport and Recreation Services and TAMS to realise this facility."

The 54 metre by 18 metre boulodrome will be shared with other clubs as well as the public.
