After almost a month of polling and a competition that inspired delight and derision nationwide, the three leading slogans were 'Canberra - The Bush Capital', 'Canberra - Ngunnawal Country' and 'Canberra - Driving the Nation'.
Among the existing plates, 'Canberra - The National Capital', 'Canberra - Heart of the Nation' and the Parliament House image were the hot favourites.
At last count, more than 4000 Canberrans had voted for their favourite new slogan.
But those eager to learn what phrase will ultimately win out will have to wait until around Canberra Day, an ACT government spokesman said.
A shortlist of 10 slogans was whittled down from more than 2000 suggestions, after the government asked for submissions in October.
Unfortunately for Chief Minister Andrew Barr, his favourite catchcry of 'CBR - Australia's cool capital' was not in the top three at last count.
The new number plate slogan will go into circulation later this year.
