Seb Monsour, the former chief executive of real estate development company Majella Group, was charged in September 2018 in connection with a $5 million business investment fraud.

At a committal call-over session in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday, police prosecutors and Mr Monsour's defence team were given three more weeks to have financial statements finalised before committal proceedings could begin.

Mr Monsour is accused of receiving $5 million from Chinese entrepreneur Fusheng Li, who wanted the money invested in property and business developments in Queensland in 2017.

Mr Monsour intends to fight the business fraud charge.

There is no suggestion Mr Newman was involved in the alleged fraud. He previously told Brisbane Times he had never been in business with Mr Monsour.

Mr Li began court proceedings against Mr Monsour in 2018, allegedly because his company did not receive an interest payment from the investments, according to court documents.

Mr Li met Mr Monsour in 2017 where Mr Monsour and his company Majella Group outlined three property and business proposals in which Mr Li agreed to invest.

Court documents show Mr Li wanted to expand his medical business, Tomi, and move his family from China to Australia.

In order to immigrate, Mr Li needed to apply for a Significant Investor Visa and invest $5 million in "significant, complying investments", for four years as outlined on the Department of Home Affairs website.

Mr Monsour outlined three investment opportunities for Mr Li, the court documents show.

However police would allege the $5 million was not invested by Mr Monsour.

Both parties were due back in Brisbane Magistrates Court on April 8 for a further committal call-over session before a date is set for a committal hearing.

Mr Monsour is on bail and was not required in court on Monday.
