And it's not even flu season yet, which last year put unprecedented pressure on Canberra'a emergency departments. Canberra Hospital has sent a fax to all Canberra and many region GPs asking them to rethink sending patients to the emergency department due to bed shortages at the hospital.

Opposition health spokeswoman Vicki Dunne said it was a dangerous directive that showed a lack of planning from the government.

ACT Health did not answer questions asking if there was a reason for the high demand and if it meant the department was under-resourced.

It's called DKSN - short for Dickson. It's going to cost $160 million. And it's going up on the old Dickson motor registry site.

The first stage of Doma Group's precinct has been given the green light.

Doma lodged two development applications for four new building on the site at the beginning of the year.

This week the southern side of the DKSN precinct, a joint venture with Doma Group and Englobo, was approved, Doma said. The notice of decision is yet to be released, with the government saying it was still being finalised.

Canberra has stopped to remember and pay respect to Eurydice Dixon at a vigil at Haig Park.

The young comedian was killed as she walked across a soccer field in Melbourne on her way home in the early hours of Wednesday morning last week. Ms Dixon had just performed a stand-up gig.

Reclaim Haig Park Solidarity Vigil organiser Blair Williams said the event was a reflective vigil for Eurydice and was a place for women to come together and feel empowered.

A rare May Gibbs painting, complete with a poem that may never have been published, made a special trip to Canberra last week, after a Canberra Times story connected the owners with May Gibbs expert Jane Brummitt.

After reading a Canberra Times story a Sydney couple wanted to learn more about a painting they knew little about.

Brummitt, an Adelaide author and former teacher who has long held a fascination for the Gibb’s legacy, stumbled across a similar find and donated her painting to the National Centre for Australian Children’s Literature, at the University of Canberra, last year.

Canberra Raiders young gun Nick Cotric missed out on State of Origin selection, but Blues coach Brad Fittler made it clear he's still on his radar.

Fittler called Cotric on Saturday night to break the news but reinforced the message that he is still on the radar, telling him to "keep doing what you’re doing".
