Andrew Barr 'favourably disposed' towards legalising cannabis
ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr said he was "favourably disposed" towards legalising cannabis in the bush capital.
It follows Labor MLA Michael Pettersson tabling a private members bill in the ACT Legislative Assembly on Wednesday to remove cannabis possession under 50g as an offence for adults and allow Canberrans to keep up to four cannabis plants.
Currently, Canberrans can only possess two cannabis plants and face a fine if caught with less than 50g.
Liberals deny intervention in pill testing roadblock
As the assembly looks to legalise cannabis, Liberal politicians have denied working to influence the National Capital Authority's decision to bar pill testing at the Spilt Milk music festival.
The authority has said pill testing would not go ahead, despite the success of an earlier trial in Canberra, due to a lack of legal framework.
ACT Justice Minister Shane Rattenbury said it was "quite clear" the federal government had played a role in the authority's decision after being approached by the Canberra Liberals.
'I hope you'll never forget me': ANU attack accused's cryptic video
In the days before Alex Ophel attacked his Australian National University classmates and tutor with a baseball bat, he posted a cryptic video to his Thane Jekyll YouTube channel, a jury heard Wednesday.
The above video was played to the ACT Supreme Court on Wednesday as a series of Mr Ophel's old school friends were called to give evidence.
The 19-year-old former student is charged with five counts of attempted murder, to which he has pleaded not guilty by reason of mental impairment.

An independent review has dismissed concerns about reporting the salaries of top public service executives.
The final report on the Public Governance and Accountability Act made 52 recommendations on transforming how performance and accountability are measured across the public service.
Its recommendations included that reporting executive remuneration of government agencies in annual reports be made compulsory.
Malu 'the cutest koala' released from the Tidbinbilla breeding program
It looks like 18-month-old Malu has to find a new home.
The koala has been released from the breeding enclosure into a 16-hectare "transitioning enclosure" at the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve surrounded by a predator-proof fence.
"What we're hoping will happen from here is that when we open the door Malu will start coming out and slowly explore more and more of this area," threatened species recovery program team leader Nicole Hill said.
