A retired fire fighter says he was repeatedly exposed to toxic chemicals at the Fyshwick fire station, as the government admits the site hasn’t been tested despite known risks of contamination.

The former station officer, who worked as a fire fighter for more than 30 years, said huge amounts of potentially-harmful PFAS foam was sprayed at the fire station on Dalby Street.

For the first time in 17 years, wardspersons and food services staff at Canberra Hospital have voted to take industrial action, saying they are fed up with increasing work loads, high stress and low wages.

The move could see work stoppages and campaigns to inform the community about the work they do.

The government offered a 2.5 per cent pay rise over four years but workers want a three-per-cent payrise over the same period.

Evoenergy, ActewAGL's distribution business, has been forced to pay a $20,000 fine after it failed to give four Canberra customers running life support systems adequate notice of a cut in their power supply.

The Australian Energy Regulator imposed the fine on Evoenergy in February this year, related to three "type one" breaches last year.

Canberra child safety campaigner Damian De Marco has welcomed the government’s commitment to build a national memorial in Canberra “for victims and survivors of child sexual abuse in institutional contexts”.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull issued a formal response to the Royal Commission into institutional child abuse, with the federal government agreeing to 104 of 122 recommendations.
