Ulrica Trulsson uses the simplicity of shifting shapes and the interplay of surface textures and colour variations in the creation of her beautiful ceramic works in currents.

Her wheel-thrown objects, combined with speckled and elegant glazes, show how art can be found in simple forms. Trulsson hopes viewers with a sense of curiosity in the ordinary can be captured by her work and stay momentarily in the present, enjoying the allure of these ceramic groupings. She studied ceramics initially in Melbourne before working as a ceramics associate at the Jam Factory in Adelaide in 2012-13. In 2014, she was awarded a highly commended at the Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize at the South Australian Museum.

Wendy Teakel’s work has always been inspired by the land, expressing a strong connection to the history and sense of place within rural landscapes. Land Trace includes acrylic and pokerwork paintings and sculptures incorporating corrugated iron, rabbit fur and other found objects that often appear to engage with the patterns and rhythms of land use and abuse. Teakel is interested in how landscape enfolds us as we become more interconnected with the places we spend time in. She currently works as a freelance artist and until recently was head of the Sculpture Workshop at the Australian National University, a position she held from 2008.

Craft ACT is calling for applications for a residency program which is out of this world.

The residency, Space Craft, offers two weeks' research with the Australian National University Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics at Mount Stromlo and a three-week residency at Namagi National Park’s Ready Cut Cottage and an exhibition in the Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre's gallery in 2020.

Artists-in-residence will have the possibility to do research with the team from the RSAA with a focus on themes surrounding the 50th anniversary of the Apollo moon landing.

Perhaps you read Bri Lee’s haunting story in the Good Weekend just gone. Her book Eggshell Skull is a fierce and eloquent memoir that addresses both her own reckoning with the past as well as with the stories around her, to speak the truth with wit, empathy and unflinching courage.

A highlight of the week is finding out what miniature creations will be filling the Chutespace at M16. In 2014 two M16 Artspace resident visual artists, Jeffree Skewes and Kerry Shepherdson, converted the former Griffith library book returns-chute into a secure and functioning mini art gallery linking M16 Artspace with the aptly named Chutespace.

Until June 10, Mariana del Castillo’s A Significant Fact fills the space.

“I have been creating a number of images and tableau’s which attempt to visualise the refugee experience,” she says.

“A young Syrian poet writes, ‘Can anyone teach me how to make a homeland? Heartfelt thanks if you can …’”

Shot over many seasons and across many locations around the world, on both film and digital media, this curated series of photographs seeks to document all aspects of the earth’s biosphere.

In Gallery 2 is Odd - a little, from Manuel Pfeiffer who was inspired by a piece of jazz composed by the great saxophonist Yusef Lateef. His exhibition shows painted interpretations of 12 compositions of jazz music. Making two responses for every piece of music: a first interpretation and a second in response to the first, playing on the idea of an “alternate take” in the world of jazz.

Racheal Bruhn’s Portraits in Gallery 3 captures people who have entered her life, including those who grow up and those who have died. The portraits reflect her engagement, with a small community of family, friends, and artists both past and present.

Canberra's favourite vinyl event is celebrating four-and-a-half years with a special edition, focusing exclusively on 7-inch singles. The National Film and Sound Archive's Vinyl Lounge host Thorsten Kaeding says "the 7-inch single was the way most of us oldies started our record collections. They were affordable and had the song you were crazy about at the time; if you were lucky they might even have a great b-side that would lead you to explore the artist further. They also had the added benefit of driving the rest of your family crazy as you played it over and over again."
