The Chaser writer Dominic Knight will take over as presenter of the ABC's evening show.
He replaces Robbie Buck, who will host a music-based afternoons program for Radio National in 2012.
While Knight will take over the role from Monday, January 16, Buck will only present the show until Friday, December 16.
Knight, who has also blogged for smh.com.au, said he was looking forward to the sleep-ins.
"I am thrilled to be donning the iconic black skivvy and joining the ABC Local Radio team," he said in a statement.
"Hosting Evenings will give me not only the chance to talk to heaps of interesting people, but the excuse for sleeping in that I've always wanted.
"I'm also delighted to be taking custody of Norman the Quiz, and will look after him as though he were my own child who constantly asks random questions."
And one of Sydney radio's toughest gigs has a new host.
ABC journalist Linda Mottram has been confirmed as the new host of Mornings on 702 ABC Sydney, replacing Deborah Cameron who was dumped from the slot last month.
Mottram said in a statement today that the appointment was as "exciting and daunting" as her first overseas posting.
Mottram, a Walkley award winner with 25 years' reporting experience, has covered stories in the Middle East, Moscow and the Balkans. She has most recently been involved with editorial training within the ABC.
"I am delighted to join the 702 team and be given the chance to bring the stories of Sydney's people, in all their diversity, to a large audience on the radio, online and through social media.
"Engaging with the city's decision makers and along with the audience, keeping a close eye on the issues that matter to Sydney, will be both rewarding and fun.
"It is a very great honour to host a show that checks in daily with such an exhilarating, complex, fun and fast changing city and its people," Mottram said in a statement.
