The Role

The APS6 Senior Technical Assessor is part of a team of technical experts responsible for managing technical analysis for Defence export controls and representing Australia's interests in the multilateral export control regimes. The key duties of the role include assessing the control status of military and dual-use strategic goods against the applicable legislative instrument (the Defence and Strategic Goods List). The Technical Assessment Directorates role includes assessing the control status of goods and technology, identifying new and emerging technology significant to defence and national security, and developing and assessing control proposals for the multilateral export control regimes: The Australia Group, Nuclear Suppliers Group, Missile Technology Control Regime and Wassenaar Arrangement. Effective export controls rely heavily on strong and effective relationships between DEC and the industry and research sectors that export military and dual-use goods and technologies.

Our Ideal Candidate
The successful applicant will be able to effectively build and sustain relationships with a range of stakeholders, provide expert technical advice in the export control context, and contribute to identifying and safeguarding emerging and innovative technology with conventional military and weapons of mass destruction capability application. Undergraduate qualifications in aerospace/aeronautical, mechanical/mechatronic, electrical/electronic, systems engineering, physics, or related fields are required for this role.
