What were you doing at 3:30 on Wednesday? A face-to-face meeting or date, perhaps? Whatever it was, it may be worth forgetting as women look their oldest and ugliest at 3.30pm on a Wednesday, according to a new British survey.
Call it the Wednesday work slump.
Diet, exercise and sleep habits and - most significantly - stress levels converge to make 3.30pm on Wednesday the time we look our most ghastly.
The study revealed that one-in-10 women find Wednesday the most stressful day.
It is the day one-in-five are most likely to work through their lunch hour and the day almost four-in-five experience a drop in energy levels mid-afternoon.
The poll was conducted in January by One Poll for St Tropez. Now cosmetic companies are fond of commissioning surveys to get their names in the media and for this reason I am fond of overlooking them. But this one resonates. The findings - while amusing - hit home as the clock ticked to the appointed half-hour.
I think I felt a midweek work slump coming on.
How were your stress levels? Were you reaching for a sugary snack?
The survey found that almost half of British women hit the booze at weekends so by Wednesday they’re paying for it. "Processing the toxins in alcohol and sugar can put strain on the body," says Nichola Joss, St Tropez’s skin expert. “Typically it can take 72 hours for the visible effects of alcohol to show so the effects of that Sunday night drink may not present themselves until Wednesday afternoon."
More than a third of women reported Monday night as when they are most likely to get a bad night’s sleep which also does not bode well for Wednesday. The visible effects of a lack of sleep can take 48 hours to show on the face. And perhaps an effect of the mid-week slump, more than one-in-10 women abandon their skin care regime on a Wednesday, the survey found.
How do you feel midweek? Do you agree it’s the time you look your worse? When do you feel - and look - your best?
