But that was more than two years ago, and it will mean little when he steps into the ring against Canberra's Dave Toussaint with the roar of a parochial home crowd packed into every punch.

The unbeaten Toussaint (12-0 with eight knockouts) will face Jackson for the Australasian middleweight title in the main event of Capital Fight Show 14 at the Hellenic Club on May 4.

It looms as the biggest fight of the 26-year-old's career with a potential top 15 ranking on the line against New Zealand prizefighter Jackson.

Jackson (27-10-4) has gone the distance with Anthony Mundine and WBA middleweight world champion Ryota Murata, and the 31-year-old peaked at No. 10 in the World Boxing Organisation's rankings.

But ANBF Australian middleweight title holder Toussaint doesn't fear the challenge - he thrives on it.

"This guy is definitely the most experienced fighter I’ve been against and he has fought top quality guys," Toussaint said.

"He’s never been stopped and he’s had 41 fights so it’s going to be tough for me but hopefully I’ll get away with a win, a new belt, and hopefully a top 15 ranking if I win as well so it will be good.

"He’s tough, durable, a good opponent, hopefully I can do him and move onto the next chapter and get good momentum for the year."

Toussaint could shoot into the WBO's top 15 with a win over Jackson and put himself on track for a world title tilt - and he is amassing a nice collection of championship gold along the way.

"I won the Australasian title at super middleweight when I stopped Jordan Tai a few years ago but hopefully I do it again at middleweight," Toussaint said.

"[There's] a lot at stake for me but hopefully I win this and get good momentum going for the rest of the year so I’m looking forward to it.

"I’ve been giving them all to my old man after every fight, they’re starting to build up at his place so it’s good."

Toussaint's last fight was an Australian title victory against Liam Hutchinson in September and the former electrician believes he is in the best shape of his career following a two-week camp at Tiger Muay Thai in Thailand.

"It was great to get over there, it was a great atmosphere to train in and it was nice and hot. We got two weeks and I didn’t have a single day off, just worked hard the whole time," Toussaint said.

"Usually leading up to a fight I’m nursing an injury or I’ve got something that I’m taking care of but this time I haven’t had anything, so it’s been really good and I’ve been training solidly for three or four months.

"I’ve really been enjoying my training again so hopefully it all comes together May 4th and I have a good one.

"We were staying about a kilometre and a half away from the gym so before you even got there you’re pouring in sweat. I went the wrong way on a few wrong runs covered in sweat, it was hard work but I feel great for it.

"This is probably as prepared as I’ve ever been leading up to a fight so I’m looking forward to it."

CFS 14 will kick off a landmark weekend for combat sports in Canberra, with the capital's own Duke Didier set to defend his Brace MMA light heavyweight title against Jacob Malkoun in the main event of Brace 53 at the AIS Arena on May 5.
