1. UGGBOOT BOWLS
It's no secret you're spending this winter at home in your ugg boots or other equivalent shoe of style. So why not break out the sheepskins in an elite sporting area: lawn bowls. Every Sunday afternoon this winter, the RUC Turner Bowls Club is hosting "Uggboot Bowls". On offer is burgers, bubbles, beers and if you can honestly believe it, bowls. As uggs are fair game, why stop there? Regally drape yourself in blankets, ponchos or an unholy offspring of the two (ahem, snuggies) and head to the RUC. Dressing sexy is for summertime/your friends currently showboating about Europe, so spare that pride. 10am-4pm Sundays. Bookings essential, phone 6247 7838.
2. THE SOUQ
The National Museum of Australia is sending off their "So That You Might Know Each Other" exhibition in bearded bliss. Their Arabic market, the Souq, will feature traditional desserts, family activities, food stalls and henna tattooing. Also on the line-up is the travelling Knafeh Bakery, aka the bearded bakers, who will be bringing their sweet cheese desserts, impromptu performances and well-cultivated facial hair. 11am-3pm, July 22. Free entry.
3. PLAY SCHOOL LIVE
Your former idea of a "concert" might've been the Foo Fighters, Kendrick Lamar, possibly some Ed Sheeran. But now that you've got a few magical little ones, you'll know nobody rocks harder than Play School. Show favourites Teo and Rachel will be in Canberra this weekend to perform Once Upon A Time, a production that could have you thinking "once upon a time I was actually seeing Beyoncé live" but also a production that will no doubt entertain the kids with nursery rhyme characters coming to life. Visit kidspromotions.com.au for tickets. Sessions at 10am, 12pm and 2pm, July 20-22. $19.80.
4. VEGAN BRUNCH
If you've already bent your week out of shape, the Vegan Healthy Living group has you covered this Sunday. It will be hosting a delicious vegan brunch at Braddon's Sweet Bones followed by a leisurely 24km bike ride around half of Lake Burley Griffin. So what are you waiting for, (Sunday, presumably) get onya bike/soy chai. Brunch at 10am, bike ride at 11.30am, July 22. See menu here: sweetbonescompany.com/menu.
5. NORTHEAST PARTY HOUSE
Perhaps you're nostalgic for the Canberra warehouse parties of the '90s, or perhaps you weren't even conceived then. Either way, if you like a boogie, Northeast Party House are bringing their high-energy set to ANU's newest music venue MOLO Live. Northeast emerged from Melbourne's inner city warehouse scene with their guitar-heavy, dance-focused LPs Any Given Weekend and Dare. They've sold out shows in the US and UK and will be starting the party this Friday, July 22 at 7.30pm. Tickets $34.77 via moshtix.com.au.
