After hosting some of the nation's biggest dance acts - including Sneaky Sound System and Calvin Harris - over the past 15 years, Academy is closing its doors.

A post on the club's official Facebook page last night listed the expiration of the club's lease at the end of April as "feeling right" for the timing of the club's closure.

"You have allowed us to do something that we love... create a place to get wild each week and put on huge headline artists," the post says.

"After so many years we have decided that rather than loose [sic] that love, we should call it a day before that happens."

Academy opened on Bunda Street - in the old Center Cinema building - in 2003 and since has hosted hundreds of national and international dance acts and the club's signature night out - foam parties.

The club will officially close on Saturday, April 21, when the crew will get together for "a few light beers".

There's a big lineup between now and then with acts including Will Sparks and Crooked Colours w Running Touch Canberra.

The club's owners have been contacted for comment.
