ACT government will commit to report annually on its emissions reduction progress to help build the first global account of greenhouse gas after signing two new international agreements, Environment Minister Simon Corbell announced on Monday.

Mr Corbell said he believed the move will help to further the governments involvement in the upcoming Paris climate conference.
The agreements, the Compact of States and Regions and the Compact of Mayors, are led by International not-for-profit, The Climate Group, and were flagged at the UN Climate Summit in New York last year.
The Climate Group Compact of States and Regions was set up to get accurate data from sub-national governments to create a greenhouse gas inventory.
The group believe this will support global climate negotiations, after the first Compact of States and Regions disclosure report gets released at the upcoming UN climate conference in Paris in December.
"The Compact will support global climate negotiations by providing a clear and accurate picture of sub-national government contributions through reliable and publically available data," a Climate Group statement says.
The Compact of Mayors, also announced late last year, aims to build a network of sub-national leaders to both encourage local climate action and network to lobby national-level government to commit to more ambitious targets.
"Membership of the Compact of States and Regions and the Compact of Mayors mean the ACT Government will report annually on our targets and emissions reduction progress at both the territory and city scale," Mr Corbell said.
The move comes as the Abbott government mulls its post-2020 emissions target that are expected to be announced in July.
Mr Corbell said signing the agreements was about putting the ACT in the ring in the Paris conference.
"By being involved and reporting on our targets and emissions reduction progress annually, the ACT can not only benchmark our actions on climate change, but actively contribute to more informed discussions at the Paris conference in December," Mr Corbell said.
Mr Corbell said the move was also about putting the pressure on.
"We have recently signed on to two key international agreements that are working to influence international climate change negotiations from the ground up," he said.
The ACT have previously been praised for its foray into renewable energy and its 90 per cent renewable energy target by 2020.
In May, the ACT government's efforts were endorsed by lead United Nations negotiator Christiana Figueres.
But closer to home it has not always been smooth sailing.
In 2012, the ACT government temporarily cut its internal target for green energy use in ACT directorates to 5 per cent, to put money towards energy efficiency, a move which caused carbon emissions to rise.
