Alleged illegal brothel operator arrested in early morning raid

A sex worker handed police a note during raids of illegal brothels in Reid earlier this month and led police to another illegal brothel in Braddon, court documents tendered in court on Tuesday allege.

Early on Tuesday morning, police raided Dimitrios Brendas' Mort Street flat and arrested him on allegations of operating an illegal brothel there.

Mr Brendas, 37, is also the landlord of a building that houses a legal brothel in Fyshwick called Sassy Gina's.

Sassy Gina's is connected to Jamaree Suksom, 57, a woman recently arrested after earlier raids on Fyshwick escort agencies, the ACT Magistrates Court heard on Tuesday.

Ms Suksom is accused of immigration offences.

Court documents tendered on Tuesday said police found out about the Braddon address after they were passed a note during raids at the Argyle Apartments in Reid on September 4.

The note said the woman had worked at the Mort Street address with other girls and it was also a brothel.

After the Reid raids on September 4, four Thai nationals were deported from Australia.

Before she was deported, one of the women told police in an interview: "There are two girls working [at the Braddon address] for a man called Jimmy, one girl is sick and wants to go home."

When they raided Mr Brendas' flat, they recognised the bedrooms from photographs on phones seized during the raids on the Argyle Apartments.

He was alone on Tuesday morning, and when police asked if anyone else lived there, Mr Brendas allegedly said his Thai housemate had moved out in the past week or so.

Police also found an envelope with "Jimmy" written on it and the Braddon address. A phone number police allege is Mr Brendas' was also on the envelope.

Police allege that phone number is where five photos of a woman in underwear were sent on August 14.

The documents say when police searched the Braddon flat, they found piles of linen and a copious amount of cleaning products.

The flat was sparsely furnished and had a disproportionate amount of linen, police say.

Mr Brendas is charged with operating an illegal brothel. He has not entered pleas.

Magistrate Karen Fryar granted him bail on Tuesday to live at an address in Bruce. He is also barred by his bail condition from contacting any sex worker.

He will return to court at a later date.
