Australian National University graduates nation's best for employability

Graduates from the Australian National University are favoured by the nation's employers and are listed among the world's most sought after degree holders, according to rankings released this week.

Times Higher Education placed the ANU 21st in the world in the Global University Employability Ranking, up one place from last year.

The ANU was the only Australian university to make the US-dominated top 30.

The research was drawn from 6000 recruitment managers working for international companies with more than 5000 employees.

Acting ANU vice-chancellor Margaret Harding said the results showed the institution's students were in high demand.

"ANU students also have a global outlook and the university encourages students to seek experience and opportunities to travel overseas as part of their education," she said.

"ANU offers great education and research with a focus on helping to solve some of the great challenges facing the world.

"This all helps ensure ANU graduates are well prepared for the challenges of the modern workforce and ensures they are highly sought after by employers."

The California Institute of Technology topped the list, followed by Harvard University, Columbia University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Cambridge.
