The gesture is expected to save the children's charity $1000 a year.
It follows the same donation to community groups Pegasus and Rise Above, with more to follow. Twenty panels have been installed at each of the three sites
ActewAGL general manager retail Ayesha Razzaq said the solar panels were given to community groups through the company's energy support fund.
“At the heart of the fund is our ongoing promise to support local community groups, like Barnardos ACT that provide such a vital service,'' Ms Razzaq said.
“We have already installed solar panels systems onto the roofs of Pegasus, Rise Above Cancer Support Group and Barnardos ACT and we will continue to gift solar panels to other community groups across the local community.
“We have committed $100,000 to support local community groups to generate free energy from the sun, with the aim of supporting long-term savings.''
Barnardos ACT manager Michael Dunne said the savings would be re-directed back into our support programs for children, young people and families.
“We are supporting, on average, 100 families in our family support programs, 40 young people in our mentoring/tutoring programs and 90 young people in our youth homelessness programs,'' he said.
“We would like to express our sincere thanks to ActewAGL for considering us for the Solar Grants this year. The support of ActewAGL ensures that we can continue to provide services to the most needy in our community."
