If you manage to escape your air-conditioned office today, you can look forward to more balmy conditions, with the Bureau of Meteorology predicting maximum temperatures of 29 degrees for the national capital. There's a 20 per cent chance of a light shower but be warned: the fire danger rating is still set to high. A couple of grass fires burned yesterday in Weston and Turner.
Here's what is making headlines today.
The seven-year saga over a vacant block of land
The Yarralumla Residents Association has long been lobbying the ACT government to take action against the owner of a local site, which has been dormant for six years.
They want to see the land put back into government hands and used to benefit the local community, perhaps with a public car park.
But the block's former owner says the residents are a "pathetic bunch of do-gooders" who forced development of the site to stop. Two cottages on it were nominated for heritage listings in 2012.
Labor frontbench to push for household limit on legal cannabis plants
When a bill to allow individuals to cultivate up to four cannabis plants was introduced last year in early December, there was some speculation about how it would be put into practice.
Could sharehouses with several people living in them potentially have up to 10 plants? Even 24?
The Labor frontbench will flag plans to set a limit on the number of plants households can have when the bill, introduced by backbencher Michael Pettersson, is debated today.
Katie Burgess has the lowdown on what other amendments might be discussed, and what the bill could mean for the national capital.
This Canberra woman is the feminist hero you've never heard of
Elizabeth Reid paved the way for gender equality as former prime minister Gough Whitlam's first advisor for women's affairs.
Then, inspired by a personal tragedy, she fought against the HIV epidemic, working with women from West Africa, Asia, and all around the developing world.
Daniella White takes a look at Ms Reid's extraordinary career in the lead up to her receiving the Mitchell Humanitarian Award at ANU on Tuesday night.
Commonwealth Games refugee set for boxing debut in Canberra
Former Cameroon Commonwealth Games vice-captain, Arsene Fokou Fosso, is among a group of athletes still seeking asylum in Australia after fleeing the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast last April.
Having been faced with the prospect of persecution for refusing to denounce his gay friends and teammates upon his return to Cameroon, he knew he had to make the difficult decision to seek asylum in Australia.
In his fellow asylum-seeking athletes' home countries, homosexuality is illegal, or at the very least taboo.
Caden Helmers spoke with Fosso about how his life has changed a year on from the Games, as he gets set to make his professional boxing debut at the Hellenic Club of Canberra.
Five things to do in Canberra this weekend
There's some very special events on this weekend, including the lantern festival at Lake Burley Griffin, and the return of the annual Royal Canberra Show.
A bit of a different one is the Story Dogs group meeting at Dickson Library, which is a program designed to support kids who struggle with reading using trained companion dogs.
Serena Coady has all the details here.
