Canberra radio stars up for awards

Congratulations to the Canberra radio stars who are regional finalists in the the 30th annual Australian Commercial Radio Awards. Honouring on-air and behind-the-scenes talent, the awards will be presented in Melbourne on October 20.

Leading the charge is Kristen Henry, breakfast presenter at Mix 106.3, for best documentary for her series of moving interviews with Connie Johnson before the Love Your Sister cancer campaigner passed away in September last year.

Also nominated in the best documentary category are former Hit 104.7 presenters Tanya Hennessy and Ryan Jon for the discussion with Jimmy Barnes about biological fathers versus father figures. Matty Heap and Rhys Keir were also recognised in the nomination.

Hennessy was also nominated for best entertainment presenter for her time at 104.7.

Having a field day for finalists is 2CC: Richard Perno for best talk presenter, Tim Shaw for best current affairs presenter, Eddie Williams for best producer, Phil Small for best sports presenter and Kirstie Fitzpatrick for best newcomer off-air. A-Z of Forever Classics earned Peter Davidson and Marc McCreadie from 2CA a finals' berth in best music special.

Mitchell Jamieson-Curran and Canberra Engineering are finalists in the engineering category for their work on Hit 104.7's Skyfire. Skyfire and a host of 104.7 workers - Zak Davies, Ned Breward, Josh Torney, Matty Heap, Rod Cuddihy, Adam Jansen, Bethany Larsen, Taylor Hunt, Alexandra Carlon and Georgia Duck - were also nominated in the best multimedia section.

Vying for best news presenter are Beth Rep from 2CC and 2CA and Kate Rice from Mix 106.3. Nick Rysteski from Mix 106.3 is a finalist for best news presenter.

Chris Coleman, Nick Rysteski, Adam Jansen and Rod Cuddihy from Mix 106.3 are finalists in the best sports event coverage for their Raiders coverage.
