It's a team outing or perhaps an in-office delight meant to simultaneously build morale and boost productivity but all it does is make you want to chuck a sickie.
So rather than recoil at the phrase “team building”, chuck a couple of these ideas out there when the topic is broached...
ESCAPE ROOMS
Your team might be incredible at escaping the office when they knock off at 1pm on a Friday, but how would they go escaping from a prison cell? Or a deserted island? Or a haunted house absolutely infested with demons?
Trot your team to an escape room and find out. Canberra now has three escape room venues to choose from, including Expedition Escape Rooms, Escape Rooms Canberra and Riddle Room.
BOULDERING
Your coworkers might slam upwards of 29 coffees daily, but let's see how much energy they really have. It's time to get them scrambling up a wall.
Bouldering, essentially the more Instagrammable form of indoor rock climbing, can be attempted at BlocHaus in Fyshwick.
CYCLING IN THE CITY
Close your eyes and imagine a mismatched gang of public servants ridin' dirty around Lake Burley at lunch. It feels funny, doesn't it?
Whether it's for a hard-earned session of sun and fresh air, or simply for a laugh, get the team a few airbikes from a nearby docking station and hit the streets. Wear your helmets to of course protect the capital's greatest minds.
COOKING CLASSES
You'd be hard pressed to find someone in the office who isn't up for a feed, but it might be a harder sell when they learn they'll be making it themselves.
