The top Canberra baby names for 2016 have been announced, and it seems Canberra parents have a thing for the British royals - again.
Charlotte and William were the most popular baby names in the ACT in 2016 according to a list released by the ACT government, the second year in a row both have topped the list.
Both names have been strong contenders in the top 10 lists in Canberra for the past decade.
Charlotte entered the top 10 in 2003 and has undulated in popularity before settling at top spot in 2015. William also topped the list of boys' names in 2006, 2008, 2009, 2013, 2014 and 2015.
Steering away from the royal influences, Lachlan and Amelia were listed as the second most popular boys and girls name for 2016.
For Macgregor parents Karen Davies and Alex Paterson, their decision to name their son Lachlan just came down to personal preference, not trends.
"We did a lot of reading of books and looking online at baby name lists and we really struggled to get it down to a shortlist of names. We ended up with two that we liked - Lachlan and Joshua - and settled on Lachlan," Ms Davies said.
"It surprises me Lachlan's up there at number two. I don't actually personally know any other Lachlans," she said.
Seven-month-old Lachlan's name is even further on trend with his middle name Alexander, named after his father, coming in at eighth on the list.
Just over 5000 babies were born in Canberra in 2016.
As well as William, Lachlan and Alexander, the majority of the boys' list was repeated from 2015, with Thomas, Jack, Oliver, James, and Ethan appearing again. Liam and Leo were the only new additions.
For the girls there was a bit more variety, with Evelyn, Abigail, Audrey and Lily all newcomers to the top 10. They joined Charlotte, Zoe, Ava, Mia, Amelia and Grace, which also made the list in 2015.
