Police on Thursday said they had seized almost $850,000 worth of illicit drugs destined for Canberra streets during a bust on the ACT-end of a major drug syndicate.

Nathan James Davidson, 34, was arrested overnight after police found more than 600 grams of the drug ice, 1000 MDMA pills, as well as $90,000 in cash at his city home.

Mr Davidson faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Thursday charged with four counts of drug trafficking.

He did not apply for bail, and did not enter pleas.

He is due back in court on January 25.

At a press conference outside court on Thursday, Detective Superintendent Scott Moller said the raid was part Operation Tribulation, a joint effort by the Australian Federal Police in Sydney, as well as an eight-month-long investigation by ACT Policing.

More than 200 vials of anabolic steroids were seized.

"[This man] is part of a wider syndicate that we have been investigating," Superintendent Moller said.

"He was the principle distributor in the Canberra region."

"This is a large syndicate. At the moment we're investigating the Canberra section of that syndicate."

He said the arrest overnight was a great result for the ACT community.

"These drugs cause untold harm in our community....and [this bust] is going to reduce the impact on the hospitals, on ACT community health, and on the police," he said.

Police have urged anyone with information about illicit drugs in the ACT to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
