Graphic footage of the assault was played to the court earlier this year during the sentencing. In the video, 19-year-old Anousone Sikoulabot is seen to bash the victim multiple times.

He knees the victim in the head before throwing him to the ground and landing a final kick to the head.

The victim lays unconscious as 19-year-old Sikoulabot runs away.

The victim had to have a plate and screws inserted into his jaw and some of his teeth were chipped.

The court heard the pair knew each other from a brawl a few months earlier.

The Kambah man earlier pleaded guilty to the charge of recklessly inflicting grievous bodily harm and was sentenced on Wednesday in the ACT Supreme Court.

The court heard the young man had worked in the family restaurant for nine years and had a supportive and pro-social family.

He had accepted responsibility for the crime, and since the October 22 assault had completed 11 sessions of anger management counselling.

Justice Chrissa Loukas-Karlsson said the young man had strong prospects of rehabilitation and with that in mind she sentenced him to an intensive corrections order with a list of strict conditions.

The conditions include 250 hours of community service and that he complete any alcohol or drug counselling suggested by corrections.

"You have committed a very serious offence," Justice Loukas-Karlsson said. "You know what you've done is unacceptable.

"The court has given you an opportunity to prove yourself. Do not waste that opportunity."
