A controversial Hume tip previously subjected to a clean-up order by the ACT government and multiple community complaints has shut down.

Southern State Waste Recycling, which had been operating in the suburb since 2015, said the business is in the process of shutting down operations and transporting waste to another facility.
The company's director Chris Eveston said Southern State was shutting down due to backlash and opposition from businesses in the community.
"A decision was made on the basis that we couldn't operate there in an efficient manner, and we were constantly being stopped by complaints," Mr Eveston said.
"We then made a decision to stop operations."
Southern State's 13 employees have lost their jobs as a result of the closure.
Waste remaining on the site will be taken to an off-site facility not owned by Southern State. The exact date of when the remaining waste will be moved is not known.
"The removal will be as long as it takes. I'm not putting a timeline on it," Mr Eveston said.
The Hume site stopped accepting new waste on May 4, before Southern State surrendered their environmental authorisation two weeks later.
The business was subjected to an environmental order by the ACT Environment Protection Agency in November 2017 after it contravened environment protection laws.
The order was imposed on Southern State after it failed to meet a deadline to reduce the amount of waste on site.
An Environmental Protection Agency spokeswoman said Southern State is no longer subjected to the environmental order due to the business shutting down.
"The site does not pose an environmental risk and is being routinely inspected by officers from the EPA," the spokeswoman said.
"The EPA will not be imposing penalties on the owners of the site. While Southern State have ceased operating, they still lease the site from the owner, who hold a bond from Southern State.
While Southern State is responsible for clearing the remaining waste from the site, the EPA spokeswoman said responsibility would fall to the owner if the business was unable to do so
"Southern State have ceased operating in the territory and are aware of their obligations to remove the remaining material," the spokeswoman said.
Nearby businesses to the Southern State site had made multiple complaints to the EPA and the government over more than a year about the noise, smell and potential contamination from the waste stockpile.
