Figures published on Monday as part of Crime Stoppers Week show the organisation received 317,000 reports nationally in 2017, leading to the arrests of more than 7900 criminals.
ACT residents made 9018 of those reports, with 2813 tips passed on to police as a result.
Launching Crime Stoppers Week at North Ainslie Primary School on Monday, Acting Superintendent Jason Kennedy said even a piece of information that seemed small or insignificant could break open a case.
"It doesn't matter how small it is," Acting Superintendent Kennedy said.
"It might be information about a house that has window coverings that never open, or traffic [going] to and from a house.
"Those little bits of information may add to the information that we already have and complete a picture. It’s that little piece that may actually be the difference between making an arrest or not."
Crime Stoppers ACT region chair Diana Forrester said the addition of online reporting in the past few years had helped improve the quality of information given to Crime Stoppers.
"People tend to have a little bit more time when they’re writing, and of course you can do it from a phone as well as on a computer," Ms Forrester said.
"This is really helpful, because sometimes people don’t feel as comfortable talking as they do writing.
"We do a lot of analysis on the calls and contacts that come in to us, and from what we can see, the quality of the information in those online reports is actually of better value."
Crime Stoppers is a not-for-profit community policing initiative through which people can anonymously give information and report crimes or suspicious activity.
