Humans, along with their four-legged friends, were able to take part in a high tea on Saturday, with special dog treats and "puppacinos" served alongside the traditional tea, sandwiches and scones.

The event was just one of many activities taking place as part of A Pooch Affair, a day out for dogs and their owners at Exhibition Park in Mitchell.

Now in its fourth year, this year's event was its largest, with an estimated 3000 people and 1000 dogs.

Among the activities were dog-dancing demonstrations, dog fashion shows, seminars on service dogs and guide dogs as well as play areas for dogs to interact.

More than 75 stalls were on display, including community organisations, dog clubs and various rescue groups around Canberra.

Sue and Tom Menz were among the many taking part in the dog high tea, feasting alongside their two dogs Gizmo and Turismo.

"This is our third time at the high tea, and we've come to all of them before," Ms Menz said.

"They love the puppacino, which is like a babycino with some liver treats crushed into it, and they also get a little bowl of treats and a bag of goodies to take home."

A Pooch Affair carried the theme "denim and diamonds" and owners were encouraged to dress up their dogs for the occasion. The Menzes were among those taking part.

"We bought a very cheap denim suit and we got some bling as well and we just stuck it on on our way here," Mr Menz said.

"It was quite easy to get arts and craftsy with it."

Nicole Celeban was also among those attending the high tea. She had travelled from Penrith with her four Cavalier King Charles spaniels.

"Anywhere where there's lots of dogs and lots of bling, I'm in," she said.

"This is only our second time in Canberra. We've only been to the dog day out at Floriade before."

Ms Celeban's four dogs are also therapy dogs which visit sick people in Sydney hospitals.

"I've been doing therapy work for 17 years, and it's amazing when all of sudden people are smiling and they're bright and happy. Seeing the dogs brightens them up," she said.
