Police have reminded road users that double demerits will be in place from Friday right through the festive season until New Year's Day.

Speed, seatbelt and mobile offences will attract double demerit point penalties. Other traffic infringements will incur one additional demerit point.
The officer in charge of traffic operations in the ACT, Acting Station Sergeant David Wills, said he wanted to see people arrive safely through the holiday period.
“I would like to remind all road users to take care and be mindful of the environment around them when out on the road, and to drive to the conditions," he said.
“Please enjoy the holiday period responsibly, and if you do drink, don’t drive – have a plan on how you’ll get home.
“We don’t want to see anyone’s Christmas ruined because they’ve been arrested for engaging in dangerous behaviour, or because their recklessness has seriously injured or killed someone.”
Police said a driver involved in a collision at the weekend returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.122, while another driver who was pulled over recorded a reading of 0.137.
"This conduct on our roads is simply unacceptable - any time of year," Sergeant Wills said.
But police said it was "encouraging" that none of the 400 drivers breathalysed on the Kings Highway on Monday returned positive readings for drugs or alcohol.
