If you've ever wondered whether or not you could ride your horse through a drive-thru, well, apparently you can.

Photographer Justin Smith was taking photos at the Tourist Hotel when he looked out the window and saw a horse riding up the main street about 9pm.

Yep, that's right. A horse. In the middle of Queanbeyan.

"Myself and a few others ran out to go see what was going on," Mr Smith said.

"When he came around we asked what he was doing and he said he was taking his horse for a ride."

The mystery cowboy and his fellow rider not only caught the eye of locals, but the police too.

"Someone asked him if he’d been breathalysed yet and he said yes - we all just couldn't believe it," he said.

"When we asked him where he was off to he said he was going to McDonald's for some food."

Mr Smith left what he was doing and drove to the fast food chain and waited for the rider to come.

Now, your next question might be ... What does a horse order at a maccas drive-thru? A bag of apples and a soft serve, apparently.

"I was not expecting that to happen - that's the first time I've seen a horse along the main street," he said.

The cowboy remains a mystery.
