Fashfest founders Clint and Andrea Hutchinson have confirmed the fashion event is going ahead this year with not one but three separate spaces "of cultural and historic significance" playing host to the Fashfest runway.

The trio of Fashfest shows will be staged over the next five months: the first at the National Gallery of Australia on October 19, with two other venues - yet to be announced - hosting events in December and February.

"This year we’re hosting specialised shows in new venues that allow us to showcase the beauty of architecture as well as the beauty of fashion and other creative elements," Clint said.

"It’s taken time to plan but it’s all come together."

It's somewhat of a downsize for Fashfest with the capacity of previous venue the National Convention Centre at around 400 tickets per night of the three-night festival.

The capacity of the National Gallery event is yet to be determined - "we do have room for 60 standing" - but with the same show being staged twice in one night, this raises the capacity to about 120.

And gone are the famous model casting calls, with models being selected directly "from three top agencies" for the National Gallery event. It's a move that will become obvious once the nature of the show is explained, according to Clint.

Three designers have been approached directly to showcase their work at the National Gallery show, including 18-year-old Cooma woman Charly Thorn, who works with luxurious printed silks, and previous Fashfest designer Megan Cannings.

Principal designer behind Maison de Challie Couture, Hajar Gala, will also send looks down the runway in a night focused on "cocktail glam and elegant gowns".

Fashfest co-founder Andrea Hutchinson said the festival continues to focus on independent local and regional fashion labels, and labels connected to the capital.

"We’ll always be a platform for new, emerging and more established Canberra designers and creatives across many industries," she said.
