Handmade with love
You’ll be pleasantly surprised by the number of foodie options at the Handmade Christmas Market. Kicking off on Friday night, December 7, from 5-9pm with the twilight market, there will be plenty of tasting, trying and buying.
From gingerbread houses from Amanda Eats Cake, to chocolate Santas from Enigma Fine Chocolates, to little puddings with caramel sauce from Poetry Fine Foods.
If you’re a really savvy shopper perhaps you could put together the whole Christmas menu. There’s hams from Pialligo Estate, French saucisson from La Bastide and jams and chutneys from Josh & Sue Gourmet Selection.
And keep an eye out for gifts for your foodie friends: tea towels, crockery, and homewares galore.

The clever Makers of Murrumbateman are taking over The Canberra Wine House in Dickson for a special Christmas Market on December 8.
Stallholders include One Tree Hill Alpacas, Robyn Rowe Chocolates, Win's Creek Meadery, Barton Estate, Dionysus Winery, Eden Road, Four Winds Vineyard, Gallagher Wines, Granitevale Estate, Idyllic Hills, Kerralee Vineyard, Long Rail Gully, McKellar Ridge, Murrumbateman Winery, Shaw Vineyard Estate and Yarrh Wines.
Purchase your take-home tasting glass for $10 to taste all the wines on offer and even place orders for bottled wine in time for your Christmas table.
There’ll be live entertainment too with Chicago Charles performing from noon.
Entry is free with plenty of parking available.
Beer and barbecue
Head out to Goolabri for a full day of beer, barbecuing and live music for the first Beer, Wine and Barbecue Festival.
Stallholders include The Meat Wizard, Boss Burgers, Sly Fox Coffee, Duo Duo Icecream, Capital Brewing and Bentspoke, Clonakilla Wines, and Collector Wines among many.
There’s an impressive line-up of music too, from Felix, to Richard Perso on the didgeridoo, to Canberra’s community samba drumming band Raio de Sol.
The event is free, and there’s an option of getting on the shuttle bus from either Canberra or Queanbeyan.
There’s a cooking masterclass too with the team from Fired Up BBQ where you’ll learn some of their low and slow secrets.
From 11am-9pm, this will be the perfect family day out. And there’s entertainment for the kids too if you have to take them.
If you can’t get an invite to their actual Christmas table, this might be a sneaky way to enjoy the company of chef Christophe and Josephine Gregoire out at Le Tres Bon in Bungendore.
On Friday, December 7, join them for a five-course meal celebrating local winery, Enotria Wines.
The menu includes foie gras brioche with rhubarb, gazpacho with citrus crème, turkey with cherry sauce and polenta, venison with red berries and finishing off with French Christmas pudding X111 century – a 21st century twist – with brandy butter.
It will be matched with Enotria’s medal-winning wines, from Blanc de Noir Brut Sauvage, a rose, a cabernet Franc, and a pinot noir.
From 7pm. Bookings are essential. Five courses with wine $130, without $95.
Ok, we’ve technically missed the date to make our Christmas puddings. Custom dictates you start the thing on the first day of Christmas Advent, which this year was December 1.
