The construction site of Canberra property giant Geocon's towering new Infinity apartments was at the centre of a federal court case that could end with the company penalised for breaching federal workplace laws.

A hearing into the matter was vacated and the Federal Circuit Court on Tuesday declared the company had contravened legislation stopping it from refusing entry onto work sites for permit holders.
Geocon in March 2017 had refused to let two Construction, Forestry, Maritime, Mining and Energy Union officials reach a part of the site workers were located at its Infinity towers on the corner of Anthony Rolfe Avenue and Gundaroo Drive in Gungahlin, the court said.
The court adjourned the matter and will hold a hearing on the penalty for Geocon, but is yet to set a date.

The twin towers of Infinity at 20 and 22 storeys are the highest residential buildings in Canberra.
