A video by a Canberra dance team for people with Down syndrome has racked up almost 2.5 million views on Instagram and is melting hearts across the globe.

The 30-second clip stars members of Xtreme Stars, a troupe of dancers with Down syndrome and other disabilities who rehearse weekly at the Tuggeranong Arts Centre.

The video was initially shared on Instagram by the troupe's dance teacher and tagged #levelupchallenge.

It caught the attention of global R&B; superstar Ciara, who launched the Level Up Challenge a week ago to conincide with her new music video, Level Up.

The challenge involves posting your own video attempting the dance moves from the Level Up video and literally has the internet in meltdown; Chris Pratt, Jennifer Hudson and Kelly Clarkson are just some of the celebrities who've taken up the dance challenge.

But Canberra literally took centre stage on Sunday night when Ciara shared the Xtreme Stars video to her 19 million Instagram followers. The love instantly came pouring in.

So far more the video has received more than half a million likes and thousands of comments from across the world.

"My heart completely melts," Ciara posted with the video.

"You guys inspire me so much! Nothing can stop you!"

ACT Down Syndrome Association business manager Shannon Kolak said she was proud of the video and its important message.

"We are so proud of everything [Xtreme Stars] has achieved," she said.
