The temperature is set to drop below freezing point in Canberra this weekend, and the chilly conditions could bring snow to the capital.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Gabrielle Woodhouse said while snow was more likely on higher ground than in the city or the suburbs, the situation could change with a number of cold fronts moving towards the ACT.
On Thursday morning, Ms Woodhouse said snow was forecast above 800 metres on Saturday, and above 600 metres on Sunday.
We're in for a chilly and wet weekend, with an 80 per cent chance of showers and a top temperature of just nine degrees on Saturday, followed by a high of seven degrees and a low of -1 degree on Sunday.
"It's going to be pretty brisk, I'm not going to lie," Ms Woodhouse said.
"In Canberra itself, we could see winds of up to 40 or 50 km/h during the middle of the day [on Friday and Saturday]."
Ms Woodhouse urged people to keep an eye on the Bureau of Meteorology website for the latest severe weather warnings.
A warning for damaging winds was issued on Thursday morning, warning that westerly winds of more than 100 km/h may develop about the higher ground of the Illawarra, Central and Southern Tablelands, Snowy Mountains and South Coast districts on Friday morning.
But, there's good news for snow-bunnies heading to the slopes this weekend.
Gusts in the Snowy Mountains could peak at more than 125km/h from Thursday evening, with blizzard conditions expected in the area above 1500 metres.
Perisher received 10 centimetres of snow through the day on Wednesday and overnight and there's more to come.
"The anticipated winter storm arrived yesterday bringing blizzard conditions with strong winds, cold temperatures and heavy snow flurries," a spokeswoman said.
"These conditions continued last night and into today which has coated the resort in fresh blanket of snow.
"With the temperatures as low as minus 4 degrees our snowmakers used the opportunity to fire up 51 snow guns across the Perisher and Blue Cow."
The storm is forecast to continue until Monday, with snow predicted to reach up to 65 centimetres at the slopes.
"Friday and Saturday are looking to bring the heaviest of snowfalls with 20 centimetres each day," she said.
Thredbo will be open for skiing and snowboarding this weekend.
