Nicole Johnson has long been a devotee of Civic's annual pop-up ice skating rink, but Saturday's visit to the City Renewal Authority's Wintervention festival was a particularly special occasion.

The Moncrieff woman took niece Ivy, four, ice skating for the first time, where the pair glided around the rink without issue.
"There was one time she almost fell but I held her up and she skated around with a big smile on her face," Ms Johnson said.
"I really enjoy ice skating. Being able to take my niece for the first time was a really special experience for me."
Ivy also enjoyed the Wintervention jumping castle, ice slide and circus, Ms Johnson said.
Events for the festival - aimed at getting Canberrans out and about in the cooler weather - kicked off in earnest Friday night.
"It's definitely worth going out and experiencing - they've really stepped it up a level," Ms Johnson said.
The fun continues on Sunday from 9am to 10pm. Canberrans keen to head along should rug up, with the weather bureau forecasting a minimum 1 degree and maximum of 12.
Wintervention will run in Civic until July 22, with the World Curry Festival on July 13, 14 and 15, and Eat Feast running until July 23.
