Six people safely evacuated a unit in Barton on Wednesday morning after a lamp fell onto a bed where children were sleeping, causing the mattress to catch fire.

ACT Fire and Rescue officers were called to a ground floor unit on Bourke Street about 2.40am, arriving to find the mattress alight.
Three adults and three children were already outside when firefighters arrived, having followed the Emergency Services Agency call-taker's advice to evacuate the unit and close the door.
Firefighters extinguished the fire and removed the mattress from the building, before conducting atmospheric monitoring and air ventilation operations.
No injuries were reported.
An Emergency Services Agency spokesperson said people should position all electrical appliances safely away from sleeping areas.
